"Hollyoaks" Actor Comes Out. Looks Like His Character to Follow.

Kieron Richardson

Earlier today on ITV's This Morning, actor Kieron Richardson made an appearance to discuss in some detail his upcoming storyline on Hollyoaks.

Since 2006, Richardson has played bad boy Stephen "Ste" Hay. Ste has been a violent bully, a domestic abuser, and more recently a single father. But as far as we're aware, nothing in the character's dark past hinted that he might be gay.

It seemed like the purpose of Richardson's This Morning visit was twofold: First it was to heavily publicize Ste's new and surprising gay storyline.

Hollyoak's Ste (Richardson) and Brendan Brady (Emmett Scanlan) in an upcoming episode.

Usually soaps are fairly tight-lipped about upcoming plotlines, but the interview included not one but two Hollyoaks preview clips which pretty much lay out exactly where the character is headed. (If you aren't a fan of soap spoilers you might not want to watch the video below).

The second purpose of Richardson's talk show appearance was to come out himself. I particularly appreciated his matter-of-fact attitude about the whole disclosure. The 24-year-old actor explained that his friends, family and co-workers all knew, but he felt it was simply time to make it official publicly. He also said he was excited about Ste's new storyline because at last he had something to relate to within his soap character.

No doubt our soap columnist Anthony Langford will be following this new Hollyoaks story for us. For now, enjoy the clip of Richardson on ITV This Morning...
