In what we are sure was one of the most difficult moments in his life, Chris Christie earlier today signed into law a bill that bans conversion therapy for minors in the state of New Jersey. This means that thousands of gay youth across the liberal state of NJ, a state were a majority of the people are in support of gay marriage, will now be accepted for who they are and not sent off to one of those crazed camps or therapy sessions run by loons like Marcus Bachmann.
In typical Christie fashion, there were some doubts he would sign the bill, which was passed by the state’s congress in July.
And in case anyone thinks this means Christie is suddenly changing his tune when it comes to gay rights, don’t get your hopes up. Just two weeks ago the governor’s administration filed a brief in a case that claims New Jersey’s decision to offer same-sex couples civil union, but not marriages, is illegal under the Supreme Court’s recent DOMA decision. They want to make sure the judge doesn’t get to “hasty” in making a decision.
Isn’t it fun to watch horrible homophobes fight losing battles?
