How Gay Was "Glee"?: All or Nothing

We know when you ask “What’s so gay about Glee?” the obvious answer is “everything.” But we’re here to break down the queerest bits of Glee into bit-sized morsels for your enjoyment. Think of us as your gay cheat sheet to Glee fandom.

This season of Glee goes out gay flags held steadfastly high, with Blaine's preoccupation on marriage equality, the big Catfish reveal, the addition of two new adult queer characters that will hopefully show back up next year, and a cliffhanger to set all Klainer hearts aflutter.  Glee may fluctuate in it's queer quota over time, but they got it right last night.

1. Patty Duke and Meredith Baxter Steal The Show. The pair play an adorable lesbian couple that were Lima, Ohio high school sweethearts, but in secret, who stuck around town and and have been regular at Breadstixx for years.  Why haven't we seen these amazing ladies before now!?  Their touching love story and subsequent proposal are the awww moment of the episode.

2. Sam Really Likes That Blaine Would Do Him. When Blaine meets Patty Duke's character he's shopping for an engagement ring for Kurt, and Sam shows up to help him pick it out.  When Patty wonders if Sam is the lucky guy, they're quick to clarify they're not, although Sam points out that Blaine does want to do him.  And then mentions it again.  Sam, we think you're thinking about this a little too much.

3. Unique Is Serving Fish ... As The Catfish.  Ryder freaks out and finally gets and answer about who's been faking him out most of the season.  It's Unique, who openly explains how she likes him but knows her body is not what he would have been attracted to, so she stole a picture online but the rest was really her talking to him as herself.  She heart-breakingly asks him not to destroy their connection and braces herself for Ryder to hit her for her deception. He says he'll just never speak to her again, and vows to quit glee club the next year.  Throughout their performance and after when they win the two continue to have an awkward connection, but everything is left in limbo for next season.

4. When In Doubt, Call Santana (And Bye Britt). After Brittney goes off the rails when she finds out she's brilliant and MIT wants her on campus ASAP, the only person she confides in is Santana, who Sam has called back to help. Britt eventually tells the whole group her plan just before they compete in Regionals, tearfully saying goodbye to each and every member past and present (except, oddly, Kurt?). In her final moments of Glee we see her sitting on the abandoned stage, then joined by Santana. It's a fitting send off to half of one of our favorite couples.

5. Wedding Bells... Maybe? We get both an on screen engaged (Patty and Meredith) and an on-screen wedding (Will and Emma) in the finale, our Klaine boys are left hanging with the ultimate season-ending cliffhanger -- standing side-by-side while Blaine clutches a ringbox behind his back.  Cue the collective gay gasp heard round the east coast at 9:59 PM.  Now we've got all summer to wonder if he really does pop the question, and what Kurt might say to him about it since he'd been pretty clear the last few episodes that the pair are NOT back together yet, despite Blaine's persistent heart-eyes.
