Hugh Dancy Talks Going Gay

Hugh Dancy has never been one to shy away from roles because of their sexuality, and as a result has played gay in film (Evening), television (The Big C) and theater (The Pride). In fact, it almost seems Dancy, who in real life is married to actress Claire Danes, goes gay more often than not in his work.

Dancy however has no problem with this, or how people perceive him as a result, explaining:

"[A character’s sexuality isn't] a factor in whether I'll do a role or not. If something like this comes up and it's a great character, I'll want to do it. Basically, I'll ask myself, What are the reasons I shouldn't do this? And when you look around and you realize you can't really find any, then you have to do it." He pauses and grins. "Or when the only reasons are I'm having a nice time and I'd like to just sit around."

Dancy is currently on Broadway starring in Venus in Fur opposite the ridiculously talented Nina Arianda. While Arianda originated the role off-Broadway last year, Dancy is taking over for original star Wes Bentley.

Check out the play as soon as you can if you haven't yet, it is amazing.
