It’s been three years since Sam Smith released his debut album, In The Lonely Hour, but the British singer has just announced that new music is right around the corner.
Smith began teasing the arrival of his new single via Instagram on Thursday, writing “the wait is so nearly over.”
The singer doubled-down on the Insta-hints by posting images of billboards that appeared in London and Los Angeles overnight, featuring a photo of Smith’s face with the date September 8 and the Spotify logo.
Earlier this summer, the songwriter posted photos of himself in the studio with Timbaland and producer Jimmy Napes, who co-wrote Smith’s hits “Stay With Me” and “Writing’s on the Wall.” Prior to that, he practically disappeared from social media after winning an Oscar for recording the James Bond theme in 2016, as he was heavily criticized for falsely claiming to be the “first” gay person to win an Academy Award.
Smith also had to cancel some of his tour dates due to a vocal cord hemorrhage, leaving fans eagerly waiting for something new from the artist. But it looks like the wait will officially come to an end next Friday.
