Gloria Gaynor will be eternally remembered as the singer of "I Will Survive," the disco classic that has become something of a drag anthem. But the 64-year-old Grammy winner wasn't happy at her recent appearance at West Hollywood gay club the Abbey Thursday night: Before she would go on, Gaynor insisted management ask all the shirtless go-go boys to leave the room.

TMZ reports:

The place is known for its scantily clad men in Speedos but Gloria's people say the 64-year-old diva was just protecting her image -- and it had nothing to do with the strong possibility the men were gay.

In fact, the rep says Gloria is an equal opportunity offender and makes an effort to never take pics with shirtless men OR provocatively dressed women.

Gaynor has been branching out into Christian music, leading some to think she's casting aspersions on the gay scene. But would a hater appear at a gay club in the first place?

Maybe Gaynor should just borrow a line from another one of her hits and tell critics"I Am What I Am"
