Iconic Atlanta Drag Star Lateasha Shuntel Tragically Found Dead

RIP, queen.

It is with heavy hearts that we must report on the passing of transgender Atlanta drag queen Lateasha Shuntel.

Shavonna Brooks, a close friend and colleague of Shuntel, broke the news Wednesday afternoon on Facebook.

“It is with great sadness that I inform the community of my sister Lateasha Shuntel's passing,” wrote Brooks. “Lateasha was found peacefully this morning in her vehicle and was not the victim of foul play THANK GOD! I am hurt, crying, a mess, tore up, anything you can think of at this point.”

An iconic drag performer throughout the city, Shuntel was a mainstay at popular gay bar/restaurant Blake’s on The Park.

"This news comes as a shock to all of us here at Blake's, some of whom have worked with her over the past 10 years, they wrote in a Facebook post. "Lateasha had a unique perspective and she lived her life to the fullest. All who knew and loved her felt her warm and kind presence. Blake's is mourning the great loss of an iconic family member."

Rupaul's Drag Race Queens Nicole Paige Brooks and Trinity K. Bonet both offered their condolences.

A GoFundMe has been established in an effort to help her family with funeral expenses.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to Lateasha's family and friends.
