Images From Roland Emmerich's "Stonewall" Released During Pride

Though best known for action blockbusters like Independence Day, out director Roland Emmerich has been hard at work on Stonewall, a biopic recounting the explosive birth of the LGBT rights movement.

The film's publicity campaign launched more publicity photos this weekend, both stills from the movie and candid behind-the-scenes shots.

"On this, the 46th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, we honor where we've come from and acknowledge how far we still have to go," read the caption to the above image. "Stonewall, directed by Roland Emmerich, in theaters this Fall."

The film follows young Danny Winters ( War Horse's Jeremy Irvine), who flees to New York after being shunned by friends and family back home for being gay.

Alone in Greenwich Village, homeless and destitute, he befriends a group of street kids who soon introduce him to the local watering hole The Stonewall Inn.

However, this shady, mafia-run club is far from a safe-haven. As Danny and his friends experience discrimination, endure atrocities and are repeatedly harassed by the police, we see a rage begin to build.

This emotion runs through Danny and the entire community of young gays, lesbians and drag queens who populate the Stonewall Inn and erupts in a storm of anger. With the toss of a single brick, a riot ensues and a crusade for equality is born.

Hitting theaters in the fall, the film stars Jeremy Irvine, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ron Perlman, Joey King, Jonny Beauchamp (Penny Dreadful) Caleb Landry Jones (Banshee in X-Men: First Class),
