Imagine Dragons Singer to LGBTQ Youth: “You Are So Needed Here on This Earth”

Dan Reynolds' doc "Believer" explores homophobia in the Mormon church.

Imagine Dragons may be known for their inescapable hits like "Radioactive" and "Thunder," but the band's lead singer Dan Reynolds is making a name for himself as an ally to the LGBTQ community.

Alarmed by the rising suicide rate amongst Utah teens, the entertainer explores how the Mormon church treats its LGBTQ members in the Don Argott-directed documentary Believer premiering on HBO today.

We caught up with Reynolds to talk about the film and his LGBTQ activism.

Allies are hugely important in the struggle for rights of marginalized people. How can non-LGBTQ people be better allies?

The easiest way is to fully love and accept them. Do your part to make sure their voices are heard.

During the filming of this documentary, what was one thing you learned that shocked you?

The heart-wrenching statistics about suicide in the state of Utah. Suicide is the leading cause of death amongst youth ages 10 to 24 in the state of Utah.

If you were in a room full of LGBTQ youth, what would you want to tell them?

You are absolutely perfect the way you are and you are so needed here on this earth.

Believer, produced by Live Nation Productions, will air June 25 on HBO.
