Indya Moore made their NYFW modeling debut this past Sunday, September 13, PageSix reports. The trans and nonbinary activist, model, and star of FX’s Emmy-winning series Pose walked for designer Jason Wu, strutting their stuff on the catwalk in a burnt orange maxi dress, sandals, and beaded jewelry. (Don’t worry, the socially distanced show took place outdoors at New York’s Spring Studios Terrace.)
The 25-year-old Bronx native celebrated the occasion with an Instagram post thanking Wu for inviting them to open his show.
“This is the first NYFW show I’ve ever walked,” Moore wrote alongside a photo of them grinning ear-to-ear with the prolific designer. “I’m so proud of Jason’s line, the fabric is incredible. its sturdy, soft and the clothing fits like a glove. Well done!”
It’s hardly the first time Moore has made a splash in the world of couture. Shortly after making history as the first trans person to cover Elle magazine last summer, Moore wore earrings honoring murdered trans women to accept an award at NYFW’s 2019 Fashion Media Awards.
“As you all know—or not—I am black and I am trans,” they told the crowd. “Some of you may be uncomfortable with the politics of my speech. And I won’t apologize for that, because my life is politics.”
They’ve also modeled in campaigns for Louis Vuitton and Calvin Klein.
