Gay Instagrammer Makes Breakfast Symmetry For His Boyfriend Every Morning

The best part of waking up!

One morning Michael Zee made breakfast for his boyfriend, Mark van Beek and when he laid it out he noticed the meals were identical. He took a picture and posted it online, and then started posting a similar breakfast picture everyday. Now three years later Symmetry Breakfast is a full brand with 92,000 followers on Instagram, and a book in the works.

“People wonder if I’m crazy or obsessive,” Zee told The Guardian. “But it is a declaration of love, really. I’m dedicated – both to breakfast and to Mark. I do it all, it’s my project, but it wouldn’t exist without Mark.

How does he find time to make the elaborate breakfasts every morning? “I get up really, really early,” said Zee. “If something takes more than 30 minutes to make, such as a sourdough, I do it the night before. I post at 7.30am and we leave the house at 8am. Usually, within the first hour, I’ll have 1,000 likes and by the next day it will go up to about 3,000.”

For the first two years the couple remained anonymous, but many fans thought it was a woman since the Instagram description read: "for my boyfriend and me." “I guess because they think it’s the mother, girlfriend or wife who provides," Zee told The Guardian. "One person I met said they had thought I was a young Asian girl. That was weird.”
