A new social media portrait project spearheaded by Levi Foster, Michael Hoffman and Sammy Digiovanni seeks to bring awareness to LGBT people living in countries where these identities are illegal – and sometimes even punishable by death.

"We recognize the swift and vast power of social media and look to use it to draw attention to causes we feel passionate about," Foster and Hoffman told NewNowNext. "The goal of this specific campaign is to reach as many people with an open heart and mind for equality and remind them that the fight is not over. Hopefully we can change some minds along the way."

The campaign is a project from the organization "Where Love Is Illegal" founded by award-winning photographer and human rights activist Robin Hammond.

To help spread the word, they are asking that you share a selfie covering your face to your social profiles to bring awareness to those hiding.

This Thursday, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center in New York will exhibit a selection of prints from Robin Hammond as well as have Levi Foster on hand to take portraits for visitors.
