Guys Who Work Out A Lot Have A Lower Sex Drive

Why you may want to pump the brakes on pumping iron.

What good is a tight, toned body if you don't have the stamina to put it to good use in the bedroom? A new study published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise suggests that men with strenuous workout routines may have lower sex drives than guys who take it a little easier in the gym.

Researchers at the University of North Carolina asked nearly 1,100 adult men about their sexual behavior, exercise habits, and general health and medical histories.

Respondents who had moderate to light gym routines reported relatively high sex drives far more often than those whose regimens were longer or more intense.

Professor Anthony Hackney, who led the study, told The New York Times that, in general, working out was good for the libido. "But there does seem be a potential tipping point,” after which more exercise may extinguish your flame.

While the study isn't conclusive, Hackney suggests that physical fatigue and lower testosterone levels after intense workouts play a large role.
