Is Homosexuality Morally Acceptable? 40 Nations Weigh In

The Pew Research Center took it upon themselves to find out which country is the biggest stick in the mud with its Global Views on Morality survey. Over 40,000 people in 40 countries were asked a series of questions on moral issues, including, "Do you personally believe that homosexuality is morally acceptable, morally unacceptable, or is it not a moral issue?"

Ghana trounced the competition with an overwhelming 98% of respondents finding homosexuality "morally unacceptable." The rest of the top 10 most homophobic nations list  is held down almost exclusively by African and Middle Eastern nations, with Russia coming in at a respectable [?] #14.

Though as staunchly Catholic as any nation out there, Spain is apparently the most gay-friendly, with only 6% of respondents finding homosexuality morally unacceptable. 38% didn't find it a moral issue at all, which is nothing compared to France and Canada, in which 50% of respondents felt similarly.

As for the U.S., it's the 29th least accepting, or 19th most accepting nation, depending on if you're a glass half-full/half-empty kinda gal. 37% of American respondents think homosexuality is morally unacceptable; 23% think it is morally acceptable; and 35% don't think it's a moral issue at all.

So the moral of the story is: Canada. The end.
