Is Wes Bentley Playing Man With Two Faces On "American Horror Story: Freak Show"?

We're still more than a month out from the debut of American Horror Story: Freak Show, but more details about the upcoming fourth installment of the macabre anthology series keep emerging.

The latest informed rumor is that Wes Bentley (American Beauty, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) will play Edward Mordrake, a purportedly real 19th century aristocrat who was born with a second face on the back of his head.

Well, that would certainly fit the series' carnival-sideshow motif.

SpoilerTV recently posted a Twitter pic from AHS veteran Denis O'Hare, featuring a gift basket and a script titled "Edward Mordrake, Pt. 1."

According to reports some call apocryphal, Mordrake was an English heir who suffered from Diprosopus, with another face on the back of his head that could not speak or move regularly. It could, however, laugh and cry.

Mordrake claimed that his second head, which he called his "evil twin," would whisper to him at night. He begged doctors to remove it but none would risk a surgery. As the story goes, Mordrake committed suicide at age 23.

Bentley has been confirmed for Freak Show, playing a character named Eddie who is described as a "tormentor" from Effil Darling's (Kathy Bates) past.

Given that Eddie will appear in the two-part Halloween episodes on October 21 and 28, and O'Hare's script is titled  "Edward Mordrake: Pt. 1," there's a good chance Bentley is playing Mordrake, or at least a character inspired by him.

Of course, this wouldn't be the first time AHS has looked to history for inspiration: Coven featured real-life antebellum murderess Madame Delphine LaLaurie (Bates) and voodoo queen Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett).
