Hacker Takes Down ISIS Twitter Accounts, Replaces Them With Gay Porn

The Islamic State has issued death threats against "WauchalaGhost."

A hacker breaking into Twitter accounts associated with ISIS has been deluging them with gay porn and pro-LGBT messages. In response, the extremist group has threatened "WauchalaGhost" with beheading.

The takeovers began shortly after the Pulse nightclub attack in June, when several pro-ISIS Twitter users celebrated the mass shootings. WauchulaGhost, who is affiliated with the Anonymous collective, decided to teach them a lesson by infiltrating their accounts.

"I did it for the lives lost in Orlando,” he told Newsweek last year. "Daesh [ISIS] have been spreading and praising the attack, so I thought I would defend those that were lost. The taking of innocent lives will not be tolerated."

Twitter estimates that, since 2015, it's shut down more than 125,000 accounts associated with the Islamic State.

Though WauchulaGhost uploaded suggestive photos, along with rainbow flags and messages like "Out and proud," he didn't include graphic imagery. "Our purpose is not to offend Muslims. Our actions are directed at Jihadist extremists," he says. "Many of our own [group of hackers] are Muslim and we respect all religions that do not take innocent lives.”

In a followup interview with CNN, he revealed that he's received numerous threats since beginning his online crusade. "I get beheading images, death threats—'We’re going to kill you,'" he said. "That’s good, because if they are focusing on me they are not doing anything else."

WauchulaGhost is undaunted, but he wishes social media platforms were better about shutting down hate speech and terror groups themselves. "If the social media people like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram would stand up and do something it would help," he says. "Sometimes you have to stand up and make a change for the good.”
