"It's Barbie B*tch": Nicki Minaj Takes Over Casio Tryx Launch Event in NYC
"Where my barbie dolls at, where my ken barbs at?" screamed an animated Nicki Minaj during her set at last night's New York launch party of Casio's new Tryx digital camera held at Best Buy Theater.
Clad in a blond Bride of Frankenstein-esque wig, customized Adidas cropped jacket and some seriously psychedelically colored leggings, the self-proclaimed doll overshadowed the purpose of the event and the show's opening act, The Roots.
Her legion of "ladybugs"---unmoved by the camera's revolutionary innovation---were captured by the arsenal of hits and features that have made Minaj a breakout star over the past two years---"Right Thru Me", "Moment 4 Life", "Did it On'Em" and "Monster" among them.
The most surprising moment was an acapella performance of "Save Me", a song off her platinum-selling debut album, "Pink Friday". Remarkably beyond the auto-tuning prominent on most of her tracks, she can actually sing.
While not marked by pyrotechnics, or "wow" inducing costuming, her stage show was quite the spectacle. From her female DJ's pink bejeweled lap-top (that at the wrong angle was blinding to the eye) to her five wig wearing dancers, to her animated hype man---who is a bit of star amongst the fans---the show proved that she could hold down a stage.
All in all, Nicki proved she is worth the hype...oh and that the camera is pretty cool too.
