Jaden Smith Denies Gay Rumors, Utah Passes Anti-Discrimination Law, Canada Makes GSAs Mandatory: Today In Gay

Will Smith's people are denying his son Jaden came out in an odd tweet that got gossipmongers in an uproar.

The 16-year-old After Earth actor tweeted to rapper Tyler the Creator last week, "I Think Im In Love With You, I Don’t Know I’m Still Figuring It Out But In The Meantime, Happy Birthday."

Outlets like Media Take Out reported this was Jaden's way of coming out, but a rep for papa Will told Gossip Cop: 'There’s no truth to any of it."

700 Club leader Pat Robertson told two parents asking about their gay child's wedding to skip the whole thing.

“You don’t agree with it," he declared. "You’ve got to stand there and be a witness to it. By your attendance at the ceremony, you are agreeing with it… I just wouldn’t go.”

We're pretty sure Pat's not getting an invitation to a gay wedding any time soon—family member or otherwise

Alberta, Canada, is making gay-straight alliances mandatory in all public schools.

Education Minister Gordon Dirks said he was convinced of the need after talking to young LGBT people in the province.  “I remember one conversation with a student talking about how they had attempted suicide. When that happens—and you have those kinds of intimate, frank conversations with students— it goes from your head to your heart.”

Utah lawmakers just passed a bill banning discrimination against LGBT people by a wide margin. The measure was notable because it had the backing of the Mormon Church.

S.B. 296, nicknamed the "Utah Compromise," bans discrimination in housing and employment based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Religious institutions are exempt—not just churches, but charities, schools, hospitals and family-owned businesses—leaving the door open for all kinds of legal headaches.

But as ThinkProgress explains, "Given the ubiquitous presence of the Church of Latter-Day Saints in Utah, it may be the best bill that could pass there.”

WWE trainer Bill DeMott has quit pro wrestling after complaints he routinely made racist and homophobic comments surfaced on Twitter.

Back in 2013, wrestler Austin Matelson accused DeMott of "constantly verbally assaulting our appearances, personalities, sexual preferences, injuries, and character."

In addition to telling a black wrestler "to go back to Africa," Demott reportedly called one performer "a fat tub of goo" and insinuated wrestler Brandon Traven was gay. At one point, he called Traven "half a sissy" for being sidelined with an injury.

At the time the WWE conducted an investigation but says it was unable to confirm Matelson's claims.

Just months after same-sex marriage became legal in Florida, the Republican-dominated state Legislature has approved an amendment that would strike down the state's 38-year-old gay adoption ban. It's actually something of a formality, though, as an appeals court ruled that the ban is unconstitutional five years ago.

House Speaker Steve Crisafulli said he doesn't approve of gays adopting, "but I’m somebody who operates under the letter of the law—I recognize that this has been taking place for five years, so our bill is going to reflect that.”
