Watch: Jaimie Wilson's “We #WontBeErased” Is a Musical Response to Trump’s Anti-Trans Memo

"You can't erase a human," said Wilson.

Singer-songwriter Jaimie Wilson is using his platform and talents to speak out against the Trump administration's policy memo to change the definition of gender under Title IX.

"We #WontBeErased" turns the protest hashtag into a song about acceptance singing, "You can't change everything you don't understand."

During a Facebook Live panel coordinated by Billboard Pride and hosted by Pose actress Indya Moore, Wilson discussed the Trump administration's memo alongside additional trans musicians including LCD Soundsystem's Gavin Rayna Russon, Mila Jam, and Morgin DuPont.

"You can't erase a human," Wilson said. "I think [Trump] thinks of it as a word instead of there’s actual faces and people behind that word."

According to The New York Times, the leaked memo suggests the Trump administration want to create a legal definition of sex as "a biological, immutable condition determined by genitalia at birth.

The American medical community currently recognizes a difference between sex and gender and that no single aspect of sex or gender defines a person's gender identity, which may not match the sex assigned to them at birth. Because of this, the medical community has called for legal protections for people whose gender identity does not match the categories of a man or woman, such as trans and gender-non-conforming people.

Several courts have ruled discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation is prohibited under state laws barring sex discrimination. For example, denying someone a job because they aren't masculine or feminine enough can be seen as sex-based discrimination.

President Trump's administration appears to be drafting federal guidance that rejects this interpretation, and if adopted, could exclude trans people from existing federal civil rights protections in access to health care, employment, and education.
