Jake Gyllenhaal and writer/director Dan Gilroy sat down with HuffPost Live’s Ricky Camilleri for a wide-ranging video interview to discuss their new movie Nightcrawler. In the film Gyllenhaal plays Lou Bloom, an intense and possibly mentally unhinged character trying to make it in the world of L.A. crime journalism. Gyllenhaal apparently lost 30 pounds for the role and his performance is already drawing Oscar talk.
Late in the interview [around the 25:30 mark] Gyllenhaal was also asked about Brokeback Mountain and how that film affected his career….
“It gave me the idea that films can be important and movies do have some political value…That film lives in its own space. It’s one of those films that I would say is really no longer mine. It’s sort of everyone’s.”
