Out screenwriter James Ivory won Best Adapted Screenplay for Call Me By Your Name at last night's Academy Awards, wearing a shirt inspired by the film's young co-star and Best Actor nominee, Timothée Chalamet.

The shirt, created by artist Andrew Mania, was a standout on the red carpet.

“I showed an art collector of my drawings, Xavier Salomon, the chief curator of the Frick Museum New York, my shirt and its inspiration,” Mania said in his statement. “Turns out he’s good friends with James Ivory, so he showed James my shirt. James immediately wanted one, and the next day he messaged to say he wanted one for the Oscars! So I’ve been talking to James about this before Christmas. I have an Instagram with my artwork and shirts and pictures with James.”

Ivory, the 89-year-old director of period films like A Room with a View and Howard's End became the Academy's oldest honoree on Sunday night, picking up his first win after four nominations.

In his acceptance speech, Ivory thanked Chalamet and fellow Call Me By Your Name star Armie Hammer.

"Of course, I want to thank the film's wonderful, emotion-filled actors," he said. "I wouldn't be standing up here without their inspired help."

He also thanked his Ismail Merchant, his late business and life partner who passed away 2005 after nearly 40 years together.

"I also wouldn’t be standing up here without the inspired help I received from my life’s partners, who are gone," Ivory said. While the story's plot and characters are unique, he added Call Me By Your Name resonates universally because it's a story of first love.

"Whether we're gay or straight or somewhere in between, we've all gone through first love, I hope, and come out the other side mostly intact." Watch his acceptance speech below.
