Lady We Love: Jane Lynch’s Five Best TV & Movie Roles (Besides “Glee”)

The 67th Annual Tony Awards - Show

In just a few short years, Jane Lynch has emerged as a creative force to be reckoned with—and not just for iconic role as Glee foil Sue Sylvester. She’s held her own against Meryl Streep in Julie and Julia, killed on Saturday Night Live and currently is reigning on Broadway as Miss Hannigan in Annie (and nailed an amazing live performance of “Little Girls” at this year’s Tony Awards, to boot!)

Below, we take a look at five of our favorite (non-cheerleading) Lynch performances.

Party Down

As an actress-caterer Constance Carmell, Lynch delivers one hell of a pep talk to despondent co-worker Adam Scott.

Best in Show

We see Lynch’s penchant for lady-loving characters and dark humor emerge in this clip from Christopher Guest’s spoof of the too-serious world of dog shows.

40-Year-Old Virgin

As Paula, Jane explains “a special friendship” she had with her Guatamalan gardener to inexperienced Steve Carrell.

Lovespring International

Though not widely seen, this cable gem spotlighted Lynch’s deadpan delivery as the stony owner of a struggling dating service.

2011 Prime Time Emmys

Sometimes they actually give Neil Patrick Harris the year off: In 2011, Lynch hosted one of the best Emmy Awards shows in recent memory. And looked like a total glamour girl doing it.
