Janet Jackson Shares Heartbreaking Music Video Tribute To Orlando Victims

The pop star posted an emotional montage set to her song "Shoulda Known Better"

Pop star Janet Jackson shared a moving video tribute to those lost at Pulse nightclub, set to her 2015 song "Shoulda Known Better."

The video—which includes clips of mothers mourning their sons, people attending vigils, and President Obama addressing gun control—was originally produced by Jackson fan Lamont Hicks and posted on Vimeo on Monday.

Jackson saw the video—which also features the names of those killed—and shared it on twitter, with the caption “You’ll never be forgotten. #WeAreOrlando #Unbreakable.”

Janet Jackson has long had a special connection with the LGBT community, and her 1997 hit “Together Again” pays tribute to those lost to the AIDS epidemic.

“I lost a lot of friends and people that I worked with to this disease,” she told NewNowNext back in 2008. “I told some of the people at the label the concept for the song, and they didn’t think it was a good idea... I thought, ‘You know, this is really stupid.’ It was in my heart."

"Shoulda Known Better" sees the "Rhythm Nation" singer disheartened that much of what she addressed when she was starting out—violence, bigotry, injustice—is still plaguing us.

"When you're young, you feel like, "I can change the world! I'm going to lead the revolution!'" Jackson collaborator Jimmy Jam told the BBC about the song in 2015.

"And then you look 25 years later and you go, 'Okay, I should have known better. The same problems still exist but there's a different way to go about tackling it. It still involves mobilizing people, but I can't do it by myself.'"

A baby girl without a home

Tragedy's reign left her alone

I guess I shoulda known better

But she's a citizen of the world

A right to life her cry's unheard

I guess I shoulda known better

Why why why why

Part of the revolution

Ready for real solutions

We won't accept excuses

We tolerate no abuses

Cause I don't want my face to be

That poster child for being naive

Why why why why

I guess I shoulda known better

Headlines are real or just the news

Between the lines there's human truth

I guess I shoulda known better

Each day I'm faced with irony but

Just can't feel casual about casualties no

I guess I shoulda known better

I guess I shoulda known better

Why why why why

Part of the revolution

Ready for real solutions

We won't accept excuses

We tolerate no abuses

Cause I don't want my face to be

That poster child for being naive

Why why why why

I guess I shoulda known better

It's never the critic that counts

Cause critics only wanna talk

While enlightened minds and open hearts

Together make this world a better place

Awakening a better choice

It only starts if you lift your voice

And say I shoulda known better

And so next time I'll know better

Why why why why

Part of the revolution

Ready for real solutions

We won't accept excuses

We tolerate no abuses

Cause I don't want my face to be

That poster child for being naive

Why why why why

I guess I shoulda known better

Why why why why

I guess I shoulda known better

I had this great epiphany

And rhythm nation was the dream

I guess next time I'll know better
