Jason Collins Introducing Macklemore and Ryan Lewis At MTV Video Music Awards

Best Kept Secret Festival - Day 1

Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis' "Same Love," has become a modern-day anthem for the LGBT community, and NewNowNext has learned exclusively from MTV that the hip-hop duo's performance of the song at Sunday's Video Music Awards will be introduced by Jason Collins, who became the first openly gay NBA player when he came out in Sports Illustrated earlier this year.

Though they rocked the crowds at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards and 2013 mtvU Woodie Awards, Macklemore and Lewis make their VMA debut Sunday at 9pm ET from the stage at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. "Same Love" is nominated for "Best Video with a Social Message," while "Thrift Shop" is up for "Video of the Year" and "Can't Hold Us" is vying for  “Best Hip Hop Video,” “Best Cinematography,” “Best Direction,” and “Best Editing."

Earlier this week, Macklemore and Lewis helped a woman propose to her girlfriend in Times Square when they were performing for Good Morning America.

Mary Lambert will be making her VMA debut as well, joining the boys on stage for "Same Love." It's gonna be a friggin' magical night.
