Jason Collins Makes Home Game Debut In Brooklyn, Will Re-Sign With Nets

Jason Collins will be signed to a second 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets this week, reports ESPN. The first out player in the NBA, Collins is expected to remain with the team past that extension and sign for the full season.

Last night, Collins played his first home game with the Nets, who beat the Chicago Bulls 96-80 at Brooklyn's Barclay Center. At one point in the game, fans could be heard chanting "Jason Collins! Jason Collins!"

Collins, 35, finished the game with a rebound, a steal and a foul—though missed his only field-goal attempt.

Collins called the public support "cool" but insists that the most important thing "was that we got the win." He eschews comparisons to Jackie Robinson, another Brooklyn athlete who helped break the barriers of discrimination, but admits he still can't fully digest the significance of his position. "When I officially retire, I will know."
