Jason Mraz Addresses Those Bisexuality Rumors: "I've Had Experiences With Men"
In a new interview with Billboard, Jason Mraz opened up about his sexuality.
Last month, the "I'm Yours" singer prompted a frenzy of speculation when a line in his Billboard Pride Month poem ("But know I am bi your side") seemed to suggest that he is bisexual. It wasn't the first time fans questioned his sexuality, either. He even said in a 2005 interview with Genre magazine that he was "bisexually open-minded."
Now, Mraz, who married his second wife Christina Carano in 2015, tells Billboard that he's "had experiences with men":
I’ve had experiences with men, even while I was dating the woman who became my wife. It was like, "Wow, does that mean I am gay?" And my wife laid it out for me. She calls it "two-spirit," which is what the Native Americans call someone who can love both man and woman. I really like that.
Though Mraz likes the term two-spirit, it's worth noting that the label is unique to the Native American community and carries huge cultural and spiritual significance. Those who aren't Native American are generally discouraged from self-identifying as such.
Props to Mraz for embracing his sexuality—and for finding happiness in he and his wife's organic avocado farm after "dalliances with Scientology and Landmark Forum."
