Meet the Logo30: Jeffrey Masters

The queer podcaster goes beyond your typical coming out fare.

Every day during the month of June, we will be spotlighting our 2018 Logo30. The powerful series profiles ordinary and extraordinary people who show pride in unique and provocative ways. Visit the Logo30 homepage to learn more about the series.

“I know this sounds trite,” Jeffrey Masters tells NewNowNext, “[but] the response to this current administration gives me hope. There’s a rejection of the status quo and there’s something incredibly queer in that.”

Masters, who created and hosts The Advocate’s interview podcast LGBTQ&A, brings this same sense of empowerment to his weekly show. Whether he’s chatting with seminal AIDS advocate Cleve Jones or rising powerhouses like Our Lady J and Keiynan Lonsdale, Masters digs deep, surpassing expected coming out stories in favor of examining specific life moments that have defined the queer luminaries we love.

As Masters continues to carve a space in the podcast universe, he remains passionate about defying gender norms. “When we break the binary—and [understand] that the binary is something we choose to be a part of—[it’s] going to be incredibly powerful.”
