“Transparent” Star Jeffrey Tambor Denies Accusation He Sexually Harassed Transgender Assistant

In his Emmy acceptance speech, Tambor thanked Van Barnes as one of his “teachers.”

Van Barnes, a former assistant for Jeffrey Tambor, says the Transparent star sexually harassed her while she worked for him. Barnes, who is transgender, has appeared on I Am Cait and the Amazon miniseries This Is Me, as well as on an episode of Transparent.

Tambor told Deadline he was aware a “former disgruntled assistant” made allegations against him in a private Facebook post.

“I adamantly and vehemently reject and deny any and all implication and allegation that I have ever engaged in any improper behavior toward this person or any other person I have ever worked with,” Tambor said. “I am appalled and distressed by this baseless allegation.”

In his Emmy acceptance speech, Tambor thanked Barnes as one of his “teachers” in preparing for the role of Maura Pfefferman.

On her LinkedIn page, Barnes says she began working for Tambor in 2014 and that their professional relationship ended in 2017.

Amazon says it is investigating the claim.

“Anything that would diminish the level of respect, safety and inclusion so fundamental to our workplace is completely antithetical to our principles,” said Transparent creator Jill Soloway. “We are cooperating with the investigation into this matter.”

Amazon Studio head Roy Price resigned last month after being accused of sexually harassing out producer Isa Hackett.
