Queer YouTuber Matthew Lush Compares JetBlue To "Mean Girls" Regina George, Gets Banned From Flight

Queer YouTuber Matthew Lush, a.k.a. GayGod, recently unloaded his frustrations with JetBlue in a series of tweets last week, when he spoke with a customer service rep unable to refund the full price of a ticket he had booked.

According to Lush, he wanted a refund on the non-refundable ticket because he found a cheaper flight elsewhere. JetBlue policy would only allow him an airline credit after paying $150, a change fee that was eventually lowered to $100 by Regina, the JetBlue rep he spoke with.

Rejecting the adjusted credit, Lush reported the incident—along with Regina's employee ID number—to his 155,000 Twitter followers, who responded with several memes likening JetBlue Regina to Mean Girls' Regina George.

The tweets were deemed "threatening" by JetBlue's corporate security team, who met Lush at the gate of the flight he was boarding on November 29 and denied him entry. According to JetBlue, they believed Lush would become a security threat during the flight—though they did offer him a full refund.

Lush alleged JetBlue had banned him for life, though, and #BoycottJetBlue began trending on Twitter.

“I felt like JetBlue was beating me, you know why, because they could,” Lush said in a video he uploaded the next day. In it, he also alleged being targeted because he was gay:

JetBlue responded in a statement:

The decision to remove any customer from a flight is made after careful and informed decision by local airport officials and flight crew.

It’s based on an individual’s actions and our assessment whether further actions during the flight would lead to further disruption or non-compliance with crew member instructions which could lead to diversion and delays for all customers.

A JetBlue spokesperson told BuzzFeed the airline would never ban someone for life over a tweet, and that Lush was only turned away from that specific flight because "he identified the customer service representative by name and then incited his followers to tweet threatening things at her."
