Jim Parsons To Star In Adaptation Of Michael Ausiello’s Heartbreaking Memoir, “Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies”

Ausiello recounts his emotional final year with husband Kit Cowan, who died of cancer in 2014.

In Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies, TV writer Michael Ausiello chronicles his relationship with husband Kit Cowan, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2014. It’s a heartbreaking account of Kit’s final 11 months, as the couple rush from doctor to doctor, get married, argue, make up, argue some more, and ultimately accept the inevitable.

Now Jim Parsons has optioned the film rights to the book, which was released in September on Atria Books, and is attached to star in the adaptation.

Parsons and husband Todd Spiewak will be producers, through their company That’s Wonderful Productions, with Ausiello, editor-in-chief of TVLine, serving as executive producer. No director, screenwriter, or costars have been announced.

Parsons is next slated to appear in a Broadway revival of The Boys in the Band, commemorating the show’s 50th anniversary. The revival will be directed by Joe Mantello and produced by Ryan Murphy.
