Jimmy Kimmel is one of the few bright spots on late night television these days, and Jimmy Kimmel Live is almost always hysterical, until last night when it did something pretty horrible. And a little homophobic.
In a popular segment the show has been doing of late, parents are asked to do things like give their children awful Christmas presents or wake them up during the summer saying they are late for school for a laugh. Last night, parents were encouraged to dress their kids in awful back to school outfits and videotape what happened. Funny enough, until it went a bit too far.
One parent put their son in a shirt that reads “I’m So Gay I Shit Rainbows.” The producers of Jimmy Kimmel thought this was so funny they aired the child’s reaction on national television. Likely not finding it so funny were the parents of the far too many gay children who have been bullied, assaulted and in some instances killed as a result of their sexuality in schools across the country.
Just a really insensitive move guys.
