We saw the adorable Instagrams and the red carpet snapshots. We knew it was only a matter of time before Magic Mike star (and man of our dreams) Joe Manganiello made it legal with Sofia Vergara—we just didn’t want to accept it.

But there’s no denying it anymore: Manganiello popped the question to the Modern Family actress over their Christmas vacation in Kauai, Hawaii, where the two were also celebrating Joe’s 38th birthday.

“This wasn’t spontaneous. Joe definitely planned ahead and contacted the hotel weeks in advance to discuss certain things he wanted to do,” a friend of the couple told People.

“He didn’t want to propose in a public setting, even though there are so many beautiful spots on the hotel grounds that have spectacular views and are well-known as places where people pop the question.”

Honestly, we can’t be mad at Sofia for snatching up a piece of prime rib like Joe—she’s one of our favorite ladies and is a total babe in her own right.

But Manganiello’s nervousness about proposing made our uterus ache even more:

“[Joe] said he wanted to keep it private just in case she didn’t say yes,” claims a source. “It actually didn’t seem like he was joking about that. He did seem genuinely nervous that maybe this wasn’t going to go well. He said this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with a one-in-a-million woman.”

This is Manganiello’s first marriage and the second for Vergara, who has a 22-year-old son, Manolo. The two Hollywood stars met in May at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and began dating in June.
