Love, Set, Snatched: John McEnroe Grand Slams Homophobe Margaret Court

With G.O.A.T. Serena Williams nearing Court's singles record, McEnroe calls for tennis' bigoted "crazy aunt" to be left in the past.

Tennis legend and noted angry white man John McEnroe has been publicly yelling at people for 40 years, and occasionally he uses his powers for good. Like in a new video for Eurosport UK where he built a library, purchased a library card machine, printed one out, laminated it, checked out every single book from said library, and proceeded to read Margaret Court to filth.

If you don't know who Margaret Court is, good for you. Currently a Christian minister, Court was, as McEnroe kindly explains, an Australian singles tennis player who scored 24 Grand Slam victories—a record that is closely being circled by the greatest tennis player of our lifetime, Serena Williams. Now y'all know who Serena Williams is.

Serena Williams is not Margaret Court, in that she hasn't made numerous awful, racist, homophobic, and transphobic comments over the years because she's too busy being great, cashing checks, and hanging out with BeyoncĂŠ.

McEnroe goes on to list a litany of Court's off-court offenses, like praising apartheid in South Africa, calling transgender children and LGBTQ people "the work of the devil," bemoaning the amount of lesbians in tennis, and calling it "sad" for children to be "exposed to homosexuality."

On Monday, Tennis Australia begrudgingly honored the 50th anniversary of their "crazy aunt" becoming the first woman in the Open era to win the singles calendar grand slam, that is, all four titles in one year. It was reportedly anti-climactic, but the best thing to come out of the whole ordeal was McEnroe's tirade.

McEnroe did, however, give Tennis Australia props for "counterbalancing" Court's tribute with "the largest LGBTIQ tennis tournament in the world," a.k.a. the "Glam Slam," on February 2 at Melbourne Park.

"Serena, do me a favour," McEnroe says in conclusion, "get two more grand slams this year and get to 25, so we can leave Margaret Court and her offensive views in the past, where they both belong.”

That would be nice. Speaking of things that belong in the past, remember five years ago when a then-56-year-old and fully retired John McEnroe was all "I could totally still beat Serena" and then refused to apologize for it?

Still, the ball, as it were, is in Serena's court. Let's get these 25 titles, mom!
