John Mulaney Says He’s Available to Play Pete Buttigieg in Biopic

The comedian is the presidential candidate's top choice.

Well, he's probably a better choice than Colin Jost.

Appearing this week on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, John Mulaney responded to presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg's recent comments that he would pick the comedian to play him in a movie.

“I’m hoping for John Mulaney,” the Democratic candidate said in a clip, which Fallon played during the interview.

"I've been offered two movies and I am in both of them," Mulaney joked. "'I’m hoping for.' Yeah, I think you got him."

"I was excited. That was really cool," added the former SNL writer and “Stefon” co-creator, who returns tonight to host SNL for the third time.

But Mulaney, who tweeted about Buttigieg's biopic comments, went on to say he’s received backlash from anti-Buttigieg Democrats. "I'm a Democrat," said the Bernie Sanders supporter. "But they were like, 'How dare you! No! Bad Democrat! Bad Democrat!'"

"He's an openly gay veteran of the military, so it's a real good idea to turn down him violently, other Democrats," he continued. "Stupid idiots."

“People are like, ‘Well, who do you like? Biden or Buttigieg?’ and I’m like, ‘Your tone is crazy.’”
