John Oliver Got Through Election Night By Watching "RuPaul's Drag Race"

"It was the version of American I wanted to live in."

John Oliver, the host of HBO's Last Week Tonight, is known for breaking down international news and giving Americans some harsh truth when it comes to stateside politics.

Last year, on the night of November 8 when Donald Trump surprisingly won the presidential election, the only way Oliver could cope with the news was by escaping—and that meant sashaying into the workroom on RuPaul's Drag Race.

Oliver was the host of the TrevorLIVE fundraiser last night in New York and he told the audience that he felt "hollow inside" as the election results were coming in, and that there was only one cure for how he was feeling:

"I watched five back-to-back episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race. It was the version of America that I wanted to live in, rather than the one that was unfolding in history."

I mean, who hasn't turned on a marathon of Drag Race to escape all of the troubles and stress that life has to offer? We knew we weren't the only ones who wished they could permanently live in the workroom—we just didn't expect that Oliver would also feel the same.

This isn't the first time that the HBO host has voiced his love for Ru. Earlier this year he made a strong case for why RuPaul should run for President in 2020.

We would tell Oliver to watch the Drag Race season finale this Friday, but we're sure he already has his DVR set.

RuPaul's Drag Race Season 9 finale airs Friday at 8/7c on VH1.
