If you have been on Instagram, then you probably know Johnny Sibilly, the Instahunk who has been flooding our feed for years now.
“I started off going to college for theater and I got into a school in NYC, but my parents couldn’t afford it,” Sibilly told NewNowNext back in 2015. “I said, ’Well, screw it!’ I’ll just go to NYC and just start from the ground floor, doing background work, etc. I was just so excited to be there that it didn’t matter that I was in the background.”
But Sibilly did not stay in the background. He went onto play roles on popular shows like The Deuce and FX’s Pose, where he plays Costas, Pray Tell’s boyfriend who dies of AIDS in the powerful Season 1 episode, “Love is the Message.”
For this year’s Logo30, Sibilly was asked to recall his first Pride memory, which for him was participating in New York City’s massive annual march.
“I remember going to New York City Pride, and it was one of those feelings you get like the first time you go to a gay club or the first time you kiss someone you’re attracted to—you get this affirming feeling, ’This is right, this feels amazing,'” he remembered. “It was New York City, packed, the streets were lined with people of all races, ages, and genders. It felt like the world was on the same playing field for the first time, and it was so inspiring.”
It turns out love really is the message!
