Oh Jonah Hill, what are we going to do with you?

This Is The End, the upcoming apocalyptic comedy starring Hill, Seth Rogen, James Franco, Danny McBride, and Rihanna and Emma Watson in glorious, glorious badass mode, among others, is opening next week, and in an interview with Rolling Stone to promote the film, Mr. Hill came off sounding like, for lack of a better word, a dick. But we're not entirely sure we blame him.

We just don't know what to think, and it's been days since we read this interview. Days!

Things started poorly when the interviewer called Hill "Seth" upon his arrival, something that would surely piss most of us off, especially anyone with siblings. Then it got worse. Much, much worse.

And trust us kids, this interview reaches a level of awkwardness that would make even January Jones cringe.

The interviewer soon asked Hill what kind of "farter" he is; an asinine question, yes, but he is promoting a film that is, well, asinine. Hill's response:

I'm not answering that dumb question! I'm not that kind of person! Being in a funny movie doesn't make me have to answer dumb questions. It has nothing to do with who I am.

Being in a funny movie does not, in fact, mean someone should have to answer dumb questions. That being said, accepting a paycheck for said film, a paycheck that is no doubt more than most people in this country will make this year, should make an actor maybe realize they are being paid just as much for their press obligations as their actual acting and to suck it up.

Moving on.

The interviewer, clearly frustrated and probably a bit embarrassed at this point, decided to move on and compliment Hill on his success in dramatic films, most notably his Oscar nom for Moneyball. So Hill is of course going to say thank you, maybe give some props to directors like Bennett Miller and Martin Scorsese who realized his potential and this interview is going to get back on track, right?

Wrong.

I've done one of the biggest challenges you can do in Hollywood, which is transition from being a comedic actor to being a serious actor, and I'm really prideful of that. I could have made a billion dollars doing every big comedy of the last 10 years and didn't, in order to form a whole other life for myself. Now I have fulfillment doing both.

Remember that girl (or guy) in high school whose parents were overly supportive? That girl (or guy) who not only believed that s/he would be a star after landing the lead in some Rodgers & Hammerstein production that was a hot mess, but would also not stop talking about her (his) talent? That is this, but grown up.

Although, to be fair, dude does have an Oscar nom to back up this big game he's talking.  Is Jonah right? Is Jonah being a dick? Did that Oscar nom for reals happen?

You can check out the entire painful interview here, and, as difficult as it is to read, can you please do so and tell us what to think. On one hand we don't blame the kid for being annoyed, but on the other hand, this is a dude who works pretty much solely on studio films (Estimated budget for This Is The End? $25 million. That's more than Pain & Gain, and that's a Michael Bay film. Michael motherfuc*ing Bay.), and with those films and those aforementioned paychecks comes these press interviews. The interviewer could also just be angry, and have chosen to depict Hill as some pompous nightmare, but we're gonna guess that's not the case because the day this article came out was probably a day filled with angry, angry phone calls from publicists and agents and management teams and Emma Stone, and no one wants to deal with that.

Trust.

Oh, and we should also take this time to remind you that serious actor Jonah Hill's upcoming projects include 21 Jump Street 2: Electric Boogaloo and Zoolander 2. (We of course cannot wait to see both these films, so no T no shade when it comes to these productions.)

Also, how serious an interview are you expecting when you're promoting a film that features an axe-wielding Hermione, Michael Cera being impaled by a lamppost and, from what we can deduce from the trailer, dinosaurs running around LA? (Again, so excited to see, no T no shade...) Because trust us Jonah, no one has ever asked Laura Linney or Michael Pitt or Michelle Williams what kind of "farter" they are.

That being said, Williams is a class act, and would probably give a humorous and winning response. And she's got three Oscar noms Jonah to your one. Three.

But, making the transition from comedic to dramatic roles is one very, very few people have ever really managed to do with success, so it would make sense for Jonah to want to distance himself from this public perception of  him basically being his character from Superbad in real life. Although if this is the goal, maybe he should dial it back on the comedies. And learn about that film industry we call independent.
