JVN Is the Latest Queer Public Figure to Endorse Elizabeth Warren

"The moment I knew I was endorsing was last month when I misplaced my HIV meds..."

One member of the Fab Five has joined another elite crew: the group of LGBTQ celebs and public figures who've publicly endorsed Elizabeth Warren for president in 2020.

Shortly after opening up about being HIV-positive and a survivor of sexual assault to The New York Times, Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness tweeted out an endorsement of Warren for the Democratic party nom.

"The moment I knew I was endorsing @ewarren was last month when I misplaced my HIV meds," he wrote, tagging the Massachusetts senator's official campaign Twitter.

"It cost $3500 to replace them out of pocket with 'amazing' plantinum [sic] level insurance. Health care shouldn’t be for profit ever, it’s a human right."

JVN is the latest LGBTQ celeb to announce his endorsement of Warren, who recently surpassed previous frontrunner Joe Biden in a 2020 poll from Quinnipiac University, according to Politico.

His endorsement comes just weeks after writer, editor, and activist Roxane Gay took to Instagram to announce her support of Warren. The Hunger author also cited Warren's proposed health care policies as a deciding factor.

"Whether it’s her plans for literally everything like addressing the burdens of student debt and black maternal health and universal healthcare, @elizabethwarren has shown she’ll be the best President of the United States," Gay wrote. "I’m definitely not sitting on the sidelines this time."

Warren has also scored endorsements from lesbian country singer Chely Wright, out comedian Rosie O'Donnell, and RuPaul's Drag Race Season 10 contestant Asia O'Hara.

Prominent organizations like the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and the National Union of Healthcare Workers have endorsed her, too, with the latter—a 15,000-member strong professional group—issuing a co-endorsement of Warren and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
