“Glee” Teen Josie Totah Shares First Photo Since Coming Out as Trans

The "Champions" star, who came out last month, is now seeking female roles.

Josie Totah has posted her first photo since coming out as transgender last month.

The 17-year-old Champions star shared a sassy vacation photo on Instagram, writing, “what’d i miss?”

Totah came out as trans in an essay for Time. “I know I’m lucky to be able to do what I love,” she wrote of acting. “But I also feel like I let myself be shoved into a box: 'J.J. Totah, gay boy.'”

“My pronouns are she, her and hers. I identify as female, specifically as a transgender female. And my name is Josie Totah.”

Before playing a gay theater kid on NBC’s now-canceled sitcom Champions, Totah had notable roles in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Other People, and Glee.

Totah, who is currently attending college, plans to keep acting and seek female roles. “And I can only imagine how much more fun it’s going to be to play someone who shares my identity, rather than having to contort myself to play a boy," she continued in the essay. "I’m going to gun for those roles, be it a transgender female or a cisgender female. Because it’s a clean slate—and a new world.”
