As if Canada could look any more appealing: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has appointed a special adviser on LGBTI issues.

Randy Boissonnault, an MP for Edmonton-Centre in Alberta, will take on the role of advocate. He is one of six openly LGBT members of the Canadian parliament, and the first from Alberta.

“We have made great strides in securing legal rights for the LGBTQ2 community in Canada, from enshrining equality rights in the Charter to the passage of the Civil Marriage Act,” said Trudeau.

"But the fight to end discrimination is not over and a lot of hard work still needs to be done. Canadians know our country is made stronger because of our diversity, not in spite of it.”

Boissonnault has pledged to work with Trudeau, who's stated his desire to pardon gay men convicted of "gross indecency" before Canada decriminalized homosexuality in 1968, in addressing historical and current discrimination.

“I look forward to collaborating closely with Egale and other organizations in the coming months to advance the government’s agenda for equality.”

Earlier this year, one of Boissonnault's constituents received a valentine with a homophobic slur on it, and Boissonnault delivered a valentine to him signed by Trudeau and members of parliament.

On Friday, Canada's House of Commons passed Bill C-16, which amends the Canadian Human Rights Act to ban discrimination on gender identity and gender expression.
