Kanye West: I'll Boycott Grammys If Frank Ocean Isn't Nominated

The rapper wants the Recording Academy to bend the rules like he claims they once did for Lady Gaga.

Frank Ocean missed the deadline to submit his highly-anticipated new albums, Blonde and Endless, for consideration at next year's Grammy Awards, but Kanye West demands that the openly-gay artist be nominated anyway.

It's not clear why Ocean's team missed the September 30 deadline, but Kanye warned he would not be attending the ceremony next year if the powers-that-be don't make an exception and allow him to be eligible for a nomination.

“The album I listen to the most this year is Frank Ocean’s album,” West told a California concert crowd over the weekend. “If his album is not nominated in no categories, I’m not coming to the Grammys. As artists, we gotta come together to fight the bullshit."

West pointed out that the Recording Academy has made exceptions for other artists in the past, pointing out that Lady Gaga wasn't nominated for Best New Artist in 2010, but they wanted her to perform at the show so they made some changes.

"So the Grammys secretly changed something about the nominations in order to nominate her, in order for her to perform in the show," accused West.

"Now, Frank Ocean, on the other hand, is very vocal that his album wasn’t nominated for the Grammys, right?" he added. "Since he’s vocal, no one wants to say nothing about it. No one wants to do nothing about it. And I’m saying this to y’all, because a lot of people try to make a scene, like, ‘I’m so self-centered.’"

Ocean's debut album, Channel Orange, was nominated for six Grammys back in 2013, and ultimately won two of the prestigious awards.
