Kate McKinnon’s RBG Workout Will Ginsburn Quarantine Calories

NBC’s Saturday Night Live returned last night with a social-distanced at-home edition, its first new episode since March 7, featuring musical guest Chris Martin and a monologue by COVID-19 survivor Tom Hanks.

A standout among the pre-taped coronavirus-themed sketches, Kate McKinnon revisited one of her most beloved characters, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, seen sharing her home workout routine.

RBG, whose personal trainer is a cat, demonstrates how she works all the major muscle groups: “abs, gams, tuchus, chicken wings, and critical thinking.” The 87-year-old icon’s weights? Q-tips and batteries. Hey, she’s tiny!

“You gotta get fit to post your thirst traps,” she says. “Dr. Fauci, answer my DMs.”


While fending off “the quarantine 15 ounces,” RBG also squeezes in some solid Ginsburns about the Trump administration’s response to the pandemic.

“Stay healthy,” she concludes. “All you need to do is one pushup. A pushup is when you think, hey, it’s been two weeks, maybe I’ll put on a bra.”

McKinnon finally met Ginsburg last year at an off-Broadway performance of Fiddler on the Roof

Ginsburg can be seen watching the out Emmy winner’s SNL impression in the 2018 documentary RBG, calling the comedian “marvelously funny” but “not one bit” like her. She also addressed the impersonation at the 2018 Sundance festival: “I liked the actress who portrayed me, and I would like to say ‘Ginsburn’ sometimes to my colleagues.”
