Katie Couric Talks With Carmen Carrera and Laverne Cox: WATCH

Yesterday, Katie Couric sat down for a kiki with transgender superstars Laverne Cox and Carmen Carrera to discuss everything from RuPaul’s Drag Race and Orange is the New Black to LGBT advocacy and leadership. Cox has been hard at work producing Free CeCea documentary about a controversial trans prisoner, while Carmen discussed her transition and the recent petition to have her named Victoria’s Secret first transgender angel.

After demurring from some intense personal questions, Carmen explained: “People are becoming more interested in learning these days, rather than judging without experience. And that’s a good thing!”

Later, Cox talks about her reluctance to accept being labelled as a role model: “I would never be so arrogant to think that someone should model their life after me … I prefer the term possibility model to role model.”
