Katrina Law Discusses Same-Sex Shipping On "Arrow"

Will Nyssa ever reunite with Sara?

The course of true love rarely runs smoothly, especially if you're a lesbian warrior who loses your beloved, watches her return from the dead as soulless shell, and is forced by your super villain dad into a straight marriage.

Nyssa al Ghul has had to deal with all of that (and more) during her time on The CW's Arrow.

Now actress Katrina Law is opening up about her character's journey.

Law admitted she had no idea what was in store when her on-screen girlfriend, Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) was killed in Season 3.

"When I got my first script for [the episode], my first line was, 'Where is she, where is Sara?'" she told HitFlix. "And I wondered, 'Where is she?' Then they told me: she was dead."

Law says it came as a complete surprise.

"I was like, 'Wait, who killed Sara?' I was in the dark as much as everybody else."

The forced nuptials between Nyssa and Oliver Queen sparked controversy among fans, but Law says some people misinterpreted in intentions of her father, Ra's al Ghul.

"A lot of the audience, especially the LGBT community, thought it was homophobic," she admits. "[But] I don't think Ra's... cared if Nyssa loved men or women. What he essentially cared about was Nyssa producing an heir, and there's only one way to do that. I don't think that's how Nyssa saw it, but that's how I saw it."

Law also countered that people being forced into marriage is a very real issue. "You have young girls in India being married to 40-year-old men, so it's happening today.

Sara was resurrected earlier this season, but not as the woman Nyssa fell in love with.

"I don't think Nyssa had any joy seeing her beloved brought back," says Law. "Just to see her as the shell of who Sara used to be."

But now that Sara is back, and moving on to the Arrow spinoff series DC's Legends Of Tomorrow, the door could be open for a reunion in the future.

"I would love to [do Legends of Tomorrow]," confessed Law. "I thought the Sara/Nyssa relationship was so interesting, the way that two lost souls found each other and healed. I believe if they did ever see each other again it would be a very bittersweet meeting because a lot of stuff has happened."

Law said she shipped Nyssa/Sara—like so many have before—it'd be something of of a teen girl's diary.

"There would be cotton-candy clouds, we would have unicorns as our thrones, I would be Ra's al Ghul and [Sara] would be my queen," she joked. "There would be lots of glitter and hugging."

Weird—that's exactly how we ship Roy and Oliver!

Arrow returns Wednesday, January 20, on the CW. DC's Legends Of Tomorrow debuts January 21.
