Keith Haring Is "The Boy Who Just Kept Drawing" In Adorable New Children's Book

“I hope the passion he had as an artist is apparent to the kids who read it."

Keith Haring was one of the most influential artists of the 1980s, with his work seen everywhere from subway walls to museums.

Sadly, Haring died of AIDS-related complications in 1990, but his legacy endures: His younger sister, Kay, is telling her brother's story in a new children's book, Keith Haring: The Boy Who Just Kept Drawing.

It's the first time the pop art icon's life is being told for young readers: The book follows Haring from his childhood days doodling away in the classroom, to his meteoritic rise in the New York art scene.

"This biography sheds light on Keith's great humanity, his concern for children, and his disregard for the establishment art world," the book's publisher, Penguin Random House, said in a statement.

Illustrated by Robert Neubecker, The Boy Who Just Kept Drawing also features reproductions of some of Haring's signature works. Kay Haring will donate 25% of the proceeds to the Youth Advisory Committee based in Haring's hometown of Reading, Pennsylvania.

“My book tells the story of how Keith kept drawing, no matter who questioned what he was doing or why," she told The Huffington Post. "I hope the passion he had as an artist is apparent to the kids who read it. I also want to highlight his philanthropy and hope that it inspires children to give back in their own community."

Keith Haring: The Boy Who Just Kept Drawing is out February 14 on Penguin Random House.
