Actor and singer Keiynan Lonsdale began his career appearing on television in his native Australia before heading to Hollywood, where he has found roles in the CW’s The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, as well as The Finest Hours and the Divergent film series. This year Lonsdale appeared as Bram in Love, Simon, which brought him into the LGBTQ fold—quite literally, in fact.
Lonsdale credits the movie with helping him accept and embrace his own queerness. After publicly coming out on Instagram, he released a lyric video for a new single, “Kiss the Boy,” inspired by the romance in Love, Simon.
“When I see where we have come from, and we changed slowly—progression is slow—but there is progress being made,” Lonsdale tells NewNowNext. “I am more aware than I’ve ever been. Kids are more aware than they’ve ever been. And that gives me hope. That we are working to fight for the right things.”
