Fact: Kelly Clarkson is a national treasure. The original American Idol winner recently released her eighth solo album, Meaning of Life to rave reviews and the number two spot on the Billboard chart.
Meaning of Life marked Clarkson’s first album since signing with Atlantic Records last year, and she says its soulful vibe is something she could only conjure now, at 35.
“This is a grown-ass woman’s record,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “This isn’t a record I could have made at the age of 20. This is a record you make when you’ve lived.”
Clarkson was in London this past week promoting the record and she stopped on the BBC 2 Radio Breakfast Show when she decided to treat the in-studio audience with a soulful cover of En Vogue’s classic ’90s jam “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It).
Obviously, Clarkson kills it, and this video will definitely make you rethink picking “My Lovin'” at your next karaoke night.
The “Breakaway” singer is full of joy while singing her cover, but keep your eyes peeled for the drummer in the back who is visibly blown away by Clarkson’s pipes.
Aside from BBC 2, while Clarkson was visiting London she also swung by The Graham Norton Show where she performed “Love So Soft”—and was left speechless by a story from an audience member who had a surprising reason for pain in his rectal area.
