Kelly Osbourne Tells Gays: We "Have To Give Trump A Chance”
Eeek.
Former Fashion Police co-host and TV personality Kelly Osbourne accepted the Trevor Hero Honoree Award at the Trevor Project’s annual fundraiser on Sunday. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, during her acceptance speech Osbourne urged the LGBT audience and allies in the room to give President-elect Donald Trump "a chance."
“We’re living in a time when we might not have the future president that we wanted in this country,” Osbourne told the crowd. “And as an immigrant who can’t vote, I don’t really get to say much. But tonight, I do. People voted for him. So just like they gave us a chance to love equally, we will fight to keep that."
“But we have to give him a chance,” she added. “And we do it by spreading love, not hate."
Osbourne has been ally to the LGBT community and worked with the Trevor Project for years—but this is not the first time she has stuck her foot in her mouth when talking about Trump.
In a 2015 episode of The View Osbourne and the co-hosts hosts were discussing Trump's racist comments regarding illegal immigration.
"If you kick every Latino out of this country," Osbourne replied. "Then who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump?"
She regretted her comment and apologized the same day the episode aired:
After suggesting people give the Trump administration a chance, Osbourne did thank the Trevor Project for saving the lives of LGBT youth. “Thank you so much to The Trevor Project, not for this award, but because of what you do. You save so many lives.”
