On Thursday night, $3.5 million was raised at the annual amfAR Inspiration Gala at L.A.'s Milk Studios, where Goldie Hawn, Aileen Getty and clothing company Hugo Boss were honored for their contributions to AIDS research. Chelsea Handler hosted the event, with Sharon Stone announcing that Getty donated another $1 million on the spot. The HIV positive heiress dedicated her award to her late mother-in-law, legendary actress and AIDS activist Elizabeth Taylor, who she said “used the power of love and acceptance to inspire and demand action.”
Also in attendance were Kurt Russell, Cheyenne Jackson, Teddy Sears, Kelly Osbourne, Zoe Saldana, Vanessa Hudgens, Jennifer Coolidge, Alessandra Ambrosio, Laura Prepon, Lydia Hearst, Kevin Connolly, Alison Sweeney, Dolvett Quince, Gilles Marini, Kenneth Cole and Grace Jones, who had the crowd on their feet with amazing live performances of “La Vie En Rose,” “Pull Up to the Bumper” and “Slave to the Rhythm.”
Founded in 1985 by Taylor, Dr. Mathilde Krim and other AIDS researchers in New York and L.A., the Foundation for AIDS Research is one of the world's oldest and largest fundraising groups for AIDS research.
