Kelly Ripa Absent From “Live” After News Breaks Of Michael Strahan’s Departure

Is "Live With Kelly And Michael" dead?

Drama did not sleep in this morning.

Yesterday news broke that Michael Strahan, co-host of the mega-popular morning talk show Live With Kelly And Michael was leaving to become a permanent host on Good Morning America.

Today Ripa was a no-show on the set of the chat fest, forcing producers to have Ana Gasteyer fill in last minute. The Daily Mail reports that no explanation was given for her absence and multiple sources report that Ripa “is refusing to turn up to work until Strahan leaves the show.”

On Wednesday morning Strahan addressed the news:

“I’m leaving this show and I’m going over to GMA full time, which is going to happen in September. I do want to say to all of our viewers out there and to everybody who has watched this show over the last four years… thank you, guys. I can’t ask for better fans… and you guys have been absolutely amazing. On top of that I’ve worked with an incredible staff here and I’m always available to guest co-host if I get a call because i consider myself a part of this family forever.”

TMZ reports that Ripa is “furious” over never being told personally by Disney CEO Bob Iger that Strahan was leaving for GMA. She found out when Disney made the public announcement on Tuesday morning.

“Our ABC sources say Kelly — and virtually everyone on her show — feels Disney has screamed to the world they don’t care about Live … their singular focus is breathing life into GMA, which has lost a big chunk of its audience over the last year,” wrote TMZ.

’She wants to wait and see what happens. She’d also like someone to do the right thing and speak to her face to face rather than plot and plan behind her back,” reported the Daily Mail.

We now know what’s in those mugs on their desk. Piping. Hot. Tea.
